Our Philosophy

The concept of ethical skincare takes into account the land, producers, farmers, and purity of products. Plants used are organically cultivated or harvested using ethical wildcrafting practices. We stand firmly against the unnecessary use of endangered or at-risk plants whose populations have been decimated by over-harvesting or ingredients whose production negatively impacts ecosystems and communities. All ingredients used are natural and pure to promote wellness without harm. Environmentally responsible practices are prioritized by supporting organic herb farmers, rejecting GMO ingredients, and using glass and recycled packaging materials.
We seek to have as little of a negative impact on our natural world as possible.
We support a new vision for modern beauty that is based on self-care and well-being in contrast to the unattainable standards of beauty for women and girls that are so pervasive in our culture.

Our products are formulated to invoke a sense of communing with nature. When we use pure ingredients from the earth, we are anointing ourselves with the healing capacity of plants. Our cells recognize herbal medicine since we evolved as a species alongside plants–we seek to honor this symbiotic relationship between us and the natural world.

We are located in beautiful Nelson, BC Canada and make all of our products from raw botanical ingredients in our production studio surrounded by pristine Kootenay wilderness.
Our Products

Our products are made with certified organic ingredients or consciously cultivated/wildcrafted botanicals whenever possible.
Unlike most skincare producers, we create our own house-made herbal extracts to minimize the transportation footprint of ingredients. We are able to control the potency of our botanical extracts by harvesting herbs when they are most vital, and infusing herbal extracts over full moon cycles.
We support local suppliers and access as many herbs as possible from local farmers.

Our skincare products are water-free. Unlike most skincare companies, we do not add water as an ingredient in any of our skincare formulas. Most companies use water in their skincare products because it is inexpensive–you can often see water as the first or second ingredient listed on most skincare products. We don't add water in our skincare because we believe in creating the most vital and effective skincare possible. Instead, we use pure plant hydrosols that harness the living energy of plants. Our pure hydrosols are distilled from aromatic flowers and leaves and lend their unique healing constituents to our products.
We source vibrant botanicals that are brimming with nutrients for your skin. A little bit goes a long way, even a light application of our skincare products will provide the desired results because each formula is made with only the highest quality organic ingredients. Our products are infused with the living and healing energy of plants. Each product is synergistically formulated to provide the best results for your skin.

We use only safe and natural preservatives to keep our products lasting. You will not find harmful synthetic ingredients like artificial colors, fragrance, PEGs, parabens, or GMO’s in our products. Instead we use whole-plant and raw ingredients from the earth.
We produce small-batch skincare to ensure that products are as fresh and vital as possible when they are purchased.
Our products are formulated synergistically. Each product is formulated by a trained herbalist with 13+ years in the organic skincare industry.

Most are vegan with the exception of our Lip Care products, Sage + Frankincense Hydrating Whip, Rosa Hydrating Balm, Botanical Repair Balm, Rosehip + Honey Revitalizing Masque and Soothing Skin Balm which contain beeswax and/or honey. Our products are not tested on animals and are Leaping Bunny Certified!

With the exception of our Fennel + Clay Unveil Facial Polish, the majority of our products are generally considered safe for use in the second and third trimester of pregnancy. We recommend avoiding the use of products with essential oils in the first trimester. However, every body is unique so we suggest consulting with your health care provider/ doctor before using essential oils during this sensitive time.
For those wanting to avoid essential oils all together, we recommend our gentle and nourishing essential oil-free Calendula Baby Balm (for use on faces and growing bellies) during pregnancy.

Each skincare product comes with a manufacture date on the bottom of the jar or bottle with month, date and year. For example: a number of 021223 indicates the product was made on February, 12, 2023. We recommend using up our Sage Hydrating Whip and Petitgrain Clarifying Moisturizer, and our Blue Tansy Spot Treatment, within 6 months; the remainder of our collection is best used within 18 months of the manufacture date. Product listings in our online shop will provide details about the individual product’s shelf life.
Natural skincare is not made to last forever, use up your precious Communion products within their recommended lifespan to ensure product quality and replenish them as needed.

Products are typically shipped within 2-5 business days after receiving an order. Orders are shipped from Nelson, BC.
Please allow a few extra days before shipping during the Holiday season from November to December. -
Free shipping is applied automatically at checkout for all orders within Canada of $175+ before taxes.
You can sign up to our mailing list to receive “free shipping” discount codes with smaller order minimums when we offer them periodically.
Communion Botanicals is not responsible for duty or customs fees applied on international orders.

We provide free local delivery for addresses in Nelson & Castlegar, BC city limits for orders of $50+. A $10 delivery fee will apply to local orders that do not meet the $50 minimum for free delivery. Both options will be applied accordingly at checkout.
A free local pick-up option (with no minimum order requirement) is available at checkout for the surrounding local area. Our pick-up location is located in South Slocan Village 15 min between Nelson & Castlegar & is easily located just off the highway.

Due to the nature of our products, we do not accept returns.
We are committed to creating truly pure, effective skincare products and offer sample sizes for purchase so you can try a product before purchasing a full size. Our Skincare Sets are a great way to try smaller-sized products before investing in larger sizes.
